What is Wave & Save and how does it benefit you?

Wave and Save, also known as ‘least cost routing’, ‘lowest cost routing’, ‘low-cost routing’, ‘merchant routing’ or ‘smart routing’ is the industry terminology used to explain the routing functionality on merchant terminals for scheme (Visa/MasterCard) debit card contactless transactions.

How does it work?

1. Your customer taps their scheme debit card

2. Eligible transactions go through the eftpos® network if the transaction value is over your Wave and Save transaction limit**, unless daily limits are reached (applicable to some cardholders)^

3. You only pay the debit card transaction fee

Wave and Save uses least cost routing to help you take steps to ensure that debit card contactless transactions are processed through the lower cost payment channel. This may help you take steps to lower your merchant fees.
